Happy Squirrelly New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!  Sera here.  Wow, oh, boy, was it a busy morning here!  The yard was full of squirrels this morning.  There were more squirrels here than sparrows for a change.  My furry friends all know that this cold snap is here for a few days, and there’s snow in the forecast.  We gotta eat now while we can to stay warm.

Sydney asked if I had any resolutions.  I made just one this year.  I want to be a better squirrel and share my bounty at the feeder with other critters.  It’s hard because squirrels are territorial, and we tend to want to keep what we see as “ours”.  Ask my cousin, Sandy.  She will tell you that I sometimes chase her off so I can keep all the peanuts for myself. I can’t help it. It’s just the squirrel way of doing things.

Just look at these pictures!  I’m already working on being good and sharing.  Here I am keeping a lookout.  I think there was a cat wandering through so we all scattered and laid low for a few minutes.

Here’s Sandy getting her fill.  She was so hungry she got a little crazy-looking there for a minute!

And, here I am again.  I had a bit of an itchy-bite there for a second!  I also knew the lady was behind me, taking pictures, but I couldn’t turn to look at her. I had to keep my eye out for that cat.

IMG_0826IMG_0828IMG_0830IMG_0833IMG_0834I had plenty to eat today.  When I finished up with the peanuts, I started in on the sunflower seed in the feeder.  The sparrows didn’t mind.  They sat underneath me and picked up everything that I dropped.  It has been a wonderful New Year’s Day for all here!

Oh, Boy, It’s Tonight!!!!

Hi, everyone!  Sera here.  I’m so excited I can barely type!  It’s Christmas Eve!  The nice lady has already been outside several times feeding us critters here in the neighborhood.  We’ve had blackoil sunflower seed, a wild birdseed mix, critter crunch, peanuts and new orange flavored suet nuggets.  We are well-taken care of here for Christmas.  Santa Claws comes tonight, and we all know that he will bring us what we asked him for for Christmas. What did we all ask him for?

serasanta You know I asked him for more peanuts because you can never have enough peanuts.  They are so yummy to eat, and they are good for burying.  Then I can dig them up later for a yummy mid-winter snack.

Sydney asked him for some more of the good seed so she’ll have enough to keep her and Miss Lily fed, healthy and warm all winter long.  If he brings enough, we know that Sydney will share with those who are in need. Sydney is loving and giving that way.

Sandy asked him for some foreign language books (she’s learning German).  She also wants an ear of corn smeared with peanut butter.  It makes it hard to grip the corn that way, but the peanut butter is so extra creamy and yummy. It keeps us squirrels warm in the cold, and Sandy likes to hop up and grab the corn cob and slide down yelling, “Wheeeee!” when she slides off.

Prudence asked him for some extra shiny acorns for both her and George.  Her winter cache is pretty full, but both Prudence and George like to spend those snowy winter nights polishing the acorns to a high gloss sheen. It reminds them of sunny summer days and gives them something to dream about.  Besides the inside of those acorns are extra tasty and just what a blue jay wants when it’s cold.

Don’t forget to put cookies and milk out for Santa Claws tonight.  He likes the peanut butter cookies best.  Don’t forget the carrots for the reindeer!  I hope you all get exactly what you want this Christmas!  Hugs and kisses from all of us here in the neighborhood around the gray house.

santaclawsMerry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!
